(1 star) i’ve followed (aka worshipped) kozelek since he was 24 and recording music in his garage. i’ve seen him perform live with red house painters and then solo. but this recent turn of his self-indulgence—while the moniker “confessional” is a kind way to describe it—is so shallow as to have me pulling up the tent pegs of my adoration. much of the music here is unlistenable because of the lyrics…which is the exact opposite of the Sun Kil Krap (1 star) This new sound is such a departure from the emotive and beautiful sound Kozelek created with Red House Painters and early Sun Kil Moon. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but to me this album is a shame and a huge let down. Born in Massillon, Ohio, in 1967, Kozelek formed his first band, God Forbid, while in his teens. Upon relocating to Atlanta, he struck up a friendship with drummer Anthony Koutsos, and together they formed the first incarnation of Red House Painters....
